An Open Letter to Stanford University From an Iowa farmer:
First off, I would like to congratulate you on your Rose Bowl Stadium win! What an honor for your team to play at the Rose Bowl this year after your hard work and dedication.
I would like to clarify that I did not attend the game, nor am I an Iowa fan, and I wasn’t able to see your entire distasteful halftime performance. However, I am a proud Iowan, and farmer, and it is here in the Midwest where we stand up for those principles we believe in, even though it may include my adversary team the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Your wit and cleverness has managed to raise the eyebrows of our great nation and farming communities everywhere. Did you know that ANF (America Needs Farmers) has been an emblem on the University of Iowa’s helmets since Coach Hayden put them on during the Farm Crisis? I don’t know about you, but I love a good pork chop, and you can’t beat a nice medium-rare steak on Saturday nights, but I guess your culinary-cutting-edge state doesn’t need juicy meat after the kale revolution. Oh, you need farmers to grow that too.
A dairy cow? Really? You must be terribly confused. Your own state of California is the top producing dairy state… since 1993. Don’t cut off the hand that feeds you.
We all make mistakes, and because we’re Iowa Nice, we’ll forgive you, but that doesn’t mean we’ll let you forget.
Here is a great article by ESPN.
